Book Review: Mapping the Origins Debate

April 29, 2014 by Bob Trube Leave a Comment

Perhaps I'm stating the obvious but most discussions of origins seem to generate far more heat than light. They preach to the choir of those who agree, fail to engage those with whom they disagree on their own terms and perpetuate the unfortunate notion that Christianity and science are at war with each other. Gerald Rau's  Mapping the Origins Debate: Six Models of the Beginning of Everything  (InterVarsity Press, 2012)  is a notable exception to that trend in that it is intended to promote understanding and … [Read more...] about Book Review: Mapping the Origins Debate

Nature as a Christian Apologetic: The Open Secret

April 23, 2014 by Tom Ingebritsen Leave a Comment

Introduction In previous blogs, we've seen that God reveals himself to man through nature and through scripture and we've been addressing questions about how man's interpretations of these revelations can be reconciled. In the next two blogs we are going to address a different question: can nature be used as a Christian apologetic? In other words can Christians use nature in some way for evangelism? The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth … [Read more...] about Nature as a Christian Apologetic: The Open Secret

What about Adam and Eve? Part 1

April 9, 2014 by Tom Ingebritsen Leave a Comment

Introduction This is the fourth in a series of blog posts concerned with Christian questions about evolution. One of the biggest dilemmas  is what to do about Adam and Eve. Were they real people? How were they created? Was Adam the father of all mankind? What about the story in Genesis 3 of the fall of Adam and Eve and consequently all of mankind into sin? Do the creation stories in Genesis communicate real, historical events or are they myths that God is using to communicate timeless truths? These are … [Read more...] about What about Adam and Eve? Is Evolution Compatible with belief in God as the Creator?

April 2, 2014 by Tom Ingebritsen 2 Comments

This is the third in a series of blog posts concerned with Christian questions about evolution. In my last post we saw that science does not rule out God because it is not competent to address the question of God. But, is evolution compatible with belief in God as the Creator? That is the topic of this post. A major concern for some Christians is that there is no need for God in the process of evolution. Ironically, this is also the view of atheists. In his book The God Delusion, the atheist biologist Richard … [Read more...] about Is Evolution Compatible with belief in God as the Creator?

Does science rule out God?

March 19, 2014 by Tom Ingebritsen 3 Comments

This is the second in a series of blog posts concerned with Christian questions about evolution. A major question for me after I became a Christian was: Does science in general and evolution in particular rule out God? I know that is also a question that troubles many Christians. You may remember that in my first post on the Mechanism of Creation, the View from Science, I said that there were four meanings of evolution. The first three  change over time,  common descent,  evolution by natural selection  are conclusions … [Read more...] about Does science rule out God?
