November 30, 2015 by Richard Gunton Leave a Comment

Today Richard Gunton of Faith in Scholarship shares his perspective on how his Christian worldview and the  discipline of ecology interact. We're delighted to share pieces from FiSch members from time to time,  and are grateful for Richard's thoughtful reflections on ecology. Stay tuned for more on the FiSch ecology working group in tomorrow's "Highlighting Community" post.   … [Read more...] about Scholar’s Call: An ecologist in the household of God

Journalism Notes: Elephants, donkeys and media scapegoats

November 24, 2015 by Jeff Neely Leave a Comment

ESN is delighted to welcome  Jeff Neely as our new regular journalism columnist. Jeff, a journalism professor at The University of Tampa, will explore issues  in his field about twice a month at the ESN blog under the title Journalism Notes. The topic of the book is economics and animal ethics, an area of significant disagreement. My own convictions are well-outside the mainstream for Christian economists in the Mid-west, and I am a junior faculty member, so I was somewhat taken back when a colleague asked “Is this book going to be objective? Or will it be advocacy?” I wanted to answer “Yes.” … [Read more...] about Activism in the Academy

Homosexuality and the Christian

We're beginning an occasional series of short book reviews, written by guest writers, on topics relevant to Christians in the academy. The following review is by  Tim, a professor at a small private college. Thank you, Tim! If you'd like to contribute a book review, please get in touch.  ~ Mike This year has seen homosexuality in the news more than usual. In March, Vanderbilt University began prohibiting student groups from requiring officers to sign a statement of beliefs, following a homosexual student's … [Read more...] about Book Review: Homosexuality and the Christian
