Getting started with “How Faith Is Like Skydiving” (Excerpt)

May 2, 2014 by Tom Grosh IV Leave a Comment

Many books on apologetics do well with the arguments, but have little on how to present them. Faith Is Like Skydiving  combines reason with rhetoric, clarity with intellectual depth. It provides a vast array of arguments and a host of images to make those arguments clear and compelling. Intellectually sound and amazingly practical, this terrific book deserves widespread reading. --  James Sire, author of The Universe Next Door: A Basic Worldview Catalog and  guest contributor to the Emerging Scholars Network (ESN) … [Read more...] about Getting started with “How Faith Is Like Skydiving” (Excerpt)

Nature as a Christian Apologetic: The Open Secret

April 23, 2014 by Tom Ingebritsen Leave a Comment

Introduction In previous blogs, we've seen that God reveals himself to man through nature and through scripture and we've been addressing questions about how man's interpretations of these revelations can be reconciled. In the next two blogs we are going to address a different question: can nature be used as a Christian apologetic? In other words can Christians use nature in some way for evangelism? The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth … [Read more...] about Nature as a Christian Apologetic: The Open Secret

Rick Mattson Presenting on Campus

When  Faith Is Like Skydiving:  And Other Memorable Images for Dialogue with Seekers and Skeptics  came in the mail from InterVarsity Press (IVP) I just had to drop my colleague Rick Mattson[1]  an email to enable us to learn more about his new publication. Note: As you may remember Rick wrote a resource rich series on  Headed to Graduate School  which gave testimony to his passion not only for the life of the mind, but also for creatively engaging in dialogue with seekers and skeptics. Begin with the End in … [Read more...] about Faith Is Like Skydiving: Interview with Rick Mattson

Book Review: Teaching in a Distant Classroom

January 28, 2014 by Bob Trube Leave a Comment

Teaching in a Distant Classroom: Crossing Borders for Global Transformation  was a pleasant surprise that I ended up liking far more than I expected. Michael H. Romanowski and  Teri McCarthy  have both taught in a variety of countries around the world. One of the things I appreciated from the get-go was their commitment to high quality teaching that serves the nationals of the country they are working in. He challenges the "hidden agenda" approach of just using teaching as an entry to evangelism. While they tell many … [Read more...] about Book Review: Teaching in a Distant Classroom
