Does Intelligent Design Rule Out Evolution?

March 12, 2014 by Tom Ingebritsen 9 Comments

In the next series of blog posts we are going to look at Christian questions about evolution. In my last post we saw that two of the Christian views of creation, Young Earth Creationism and Old Earth Creationism, disagree with the scientific account of the mechanism of creation. Because of this we need to ask, is evolution true? Perhaps the strongest recent challenge to evolution has been the Intelligent Design movement. For the rest of this post we are going to look at Intelligent Design and ask if it is a better … [Read more...] about Does Intelligent Design Rule Out Evolution?

Christian Views of Creation

March 5, 2014 by Tom Ingebritsen 7 Comments

In this post, I'm going to discuss three Christian views of creation (young earth creationism, old earth creationism and theistic evolution) with the goal of identifying points of agreement and points of tension with each other and with the view from science discussed in my previous posts. I'm also going to compare the Christian views with philosophical naturalism, a world-view that is often confused with the scientific view. A comparison of these views is shown in the table. … [Read more...] about Christian Views of Creation

The Mechanism of Creation – The View from Science, Pt. 3

February 19, 2014 by Tom Ingebritsen 5 Comments

This is the last part of a series of three posts dealing with the mechanism of creation from the point of view of science (Part 1, Part 2). These will be followed by a series of posts addressing questions and concerns that Christians might have about this scientific view. In this post we are going to continue looking at the theory of evolution which is the dominant scientific view of the mechanism of creation. Previously I pointed out that evolution is a loaded word that has multiple meanings for people and that part … [Read more...] about The Mechanism of Creation – The View from Science, Pt. 3

The Mechanism of Creation – The View from Science, Pt. 2

This is the second part of a series of three posts dealing with the mechanism of creation from the point of view of science. These will be followed by a series of posts addressing questions and concerns that Christians might have about this scientific view. In my previous post, I pointed out that evolution is a loaded word that has multiple meanings for people and that part of the conflict between Christianity and science in this area is due to misunderstandings about the meanings of the word. There are four … [Read more...] about The Mechanism of Creation – The View from Science, Pt. 2

The Mechanism of Creation – The View from Science, Pt. 1

February 5, 2014 by Tom Ingebritsen Leave a Comment

There are two main points of tension between the scientific account of natural history and the creation account in Genesis 1. In my last two posts I discussed the tension around the timing of creation events. In the next three posts I'm going to discuss the scientific view of the mechanism of creation. Then in several following posts I will talk about questions and tensions that Christians may have concerning the scientific view. The theory of evolution is the dominant scientific explanation for the history of life … [Read more...] about The Mechanism of Creation – The View from Science, Pt. 1
