“The Lordship of Christ” (Richard J. Mouw)

May 21, 2014 by Tom Grosh IV Leave a Comment

On Sunday, Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ Church (the local congregation of which I am member) and the  Emerging Scholars Network  hosted  philosopher, scholar, and author  Richard J. Mouw  as part of a developing  Christian Scholar Series. Richard J. Mouw preached on  The Lordship of Christ  --  follow the link to hear him :) As you may remember, ESN has previously touched on Mouw's excellent work. In follow-up to this presentation (and post) I am going to share some material which I have particularly … [Read more...] about “The Lordship of Christ” (Richard J. Mouw)

Imagebearer: Flourishing

September 19, 2013 by Tom Grosh IV 3 Comments

I confess being quite excited to board Amtrak at 5:17 am in Elizabethtown, PA, to travel to  the Big Apple to hear  Andy Crouch, Executive Editor for Christianity Today, present material from his new InterVarsity Press release Playing God: Redeeming the Gift of Power.  As some of you know, the Emerging Scholars Network has not only highlighted Crouch's earlier InterVarsity Press publication  Culture Making: Recovering Our Creative Calling  (2008) in various posts, but also featured  Culture Making  as the focal point … [Read more...] about Imagebearer: Flourishing

Responding to “The Challenge of Jesus”

February 18, 2013 by Tom Grosh IV Leave a Comment

At InterVarsity's Graduate & Faculty Ministry's Following Christ '98, N.T. Wright delivered a series of expositions which thanks to InterVarsity Press became The Challenge of Jesus: Rediscovering Who Jesus Was & Is (1999).* Due to publishing, these explorations of the text blessed not only conference attendees, but also many others. One such person is Sean Gladding. The Challenge of Jesus became "The soil from which The Story of God, the Story of Us sprang" (InterVarsity Press, 2010, 247). Over the weekend … [Read more...] about Responding to “The Challenge of Jesus”

What gives Kent Annan focus as he shares on campus?

February 17, 2012 by Tom Grosh IV Leave a Comment

As Kent Annan, co-director/co-founder of Haiti Partners  and author of two InterVarsity Press books, wrapped up his visit to South Central PA, I asked him to share a brief reflection of his campus tour. Below's what he shared.  Thank you, Kent! --------- All week I've been speaking with university students (undergrad and grad), faculty, and staff on six campuses in South Central Pennsylvania. My public speaking schedule has increased a lot in the past two years, with two books  coming out. At first when I went … [Read more...] about What gives Kent Annan focus as he shares on campus?

Would You Support ESN With An End-of-the-Year Gift?

December 8, 2011 by Micheal Hickerson Leave a Comment

If you're an official member of the  Emerging Scholars Network, then you've received my recent end-of-the-year emails. (If you aren't an ESN member, then why not join right now?) These updates share the good news of ESN's recent activities and invite ESN members to contribute to ESN. Last week, I reported the great work going on here at the  Emerging Scholars Blog, which you, of course, already know about! Today, I reported on the ministry that my co-blogger Tom Grosh leads in South Central Pennsylvania. So you too can … [Read more...] about Would You Support ESN With An End-of-the-Year Gift?
