Responding to “The Challenge of Jesus”

At InterVarsity’s Graduate & Faculty Ministry’s Following Christ ’98, N.T. Wright delivered a series of expositions which thanks to InterVarsity Press became The Challenge of Jesus: Rediscovering Who Jesus Was & Is (1999).* Due to publishing, these explorations of the text blessed not only conference attendees, but also many others. One such person is Sean Gladding. The Challenge of Jesus became “The soil from which The Story of God, the Story of Us sprang” (InterVarsity Press, 2010, 247).

Over the weekend Gladding spoke at a retreat for some ministry leaders of the Messiah College community and engaged in a discussion on “The Story of God, The Story of Us” — Across the Generations with friends at Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ Church. Today and tomorrow, he’ll connect with faculty, friends, pastors, and students in South Central PA. As you begin this week of Lent, join us in asking together how we are part of God’s new creation in higher education — part of God’s reconciling work. To God be the glory!

*N.T. Wright is formerly bishop of Durham in England, now research professor of New Testament and early Christianity at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. Audio of the expositions are posted here.

About Us

The Emerging Scholars Network (ESN) is a national network within InterVarsity’s Graduate & Faculty Ministries which supports those on the academic pathway as they work out how their academic vocation serves God and others. We encourage and equip undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, and early career faculty as they navigate each stage of their academic vocation and transition to the next step in or beyond the academy.
