Students and Faculty Gather for Prayer at Iowa State University

October 9, 2023 by Tom Ingebritsen Leave a Comment

We were delighted to receive this report about students, faculty and staff gathering in prayer for the campus of Iowa State University. Might God be moving in similar ways on your campus? During the spring and summer of 2021, Professor Ann Smiley (Kinesiology), Lori Adams (Fellowship of Christian Athletes staff), Chad Britten (InterVarsity Staff) and Dr. Tom Ingebritsen (InterVarsity Staff) were prayer walking on campus. Dr. Smiley shared a vision she had of students and faculty praying and worshiping God together on … [Read more...] about Students and Faculty Gather for Prayer at Iowa State University

Summary and Reflection on the Christianity and Science Series

May 14, 2014 by Tom Ingebritsen 22 Comments

Introduction Are Christianity and science at war? This was a major concern for me when I came to faith in Christ 22 years ago in the middle of my career as a biology professor at Iowa State University. Although it did not prevent me from coming to faith in Christ, it continued to trouble me and caused doubts about my faith in the early years after my conversion to Christianity. I wondered whether modern science is really compatible with belief in God and whether it is possible to reconcile the Bible's account of … [Read more...] about Summary and Reflection on the Christianity and Science Series

Nature as a Christian Apologetic: Intelligent Design Revisited

May 7, 2014 by Tom Ingebritsen 1 Comment

Introduction This is the second of a two-part series addressing the question of whether nature can be used as a Christian apologetic. Natural theology is a discipline that systematically explores the proposed link between God and nature. The traditional approach to natural theology seeks to prove God's existence from what is observed in nature without reference to the Bible or other religious texts. The problem with this approach is that nature is ambiguous with respect to the question of God's existence. In my … [Read more...] about Nature as a Christian Apologetic: Intelligent Design Revisited

Nature as a Christian Apologetic: The Open Secret

April 23, 2014 by Tom Ingebritsen Leave a Comment

Introduction In previous blogs, we've seen that God reveals himself to man through nature and through scripture and we've been addressing questions about how man's interpretations of these revelations can be reconciled. In the next two blogs we are going to address a different question: can nature be used as a Christian apologetic? In other words can Christians use nature in some way for evangelism? The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth … [Read more...] about Nature as a Christian Apologetic: The Open Secret

What about Adam and Eve? Part 2

April 16, 2014 by Tom Ingebritsen Leave a Comment

Introduction This is the fifth in a series of blog posts concerned with Christian questions about evolution. One of the biggest questions is what to do about Adam and Eve. In my last post I said the Bible teaches that God reveals himself to man in two ways. One is through Scripture (the Bible) and the other is through what we observe in nature (using science). I then compared the stories of the creation of mankind in the two books. While there are apparent differences between the two stories, there must be a way of … [Read more...] about What about Adam and Eve? Part 2
