Devotions: Bearing the Image of God (4)

June 1, 2014 by Carl Shank Leave a Comment

“Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven” (1 Corinthians 15:49). The goal of a redeemed image of God in humans is complete and final restoration into the image of Christ. In Jesus as the “second Adam” we see human likeness to God as it was intended to be (1 Corinthians 15:45). Those “in Christ” therefore, are chosen by God to be “conformed to the image of his son” (Romans 8:29) so that, “when he appears we shall be like him” (1 John 3:2). This is not only … [Read more...] about Devotions: Bearing the Image of God (4)

Devotions: Bearing the image of God (1)

May 11, 2014 by Carl Shank Leave a Comment

Thank-you to Carl Shank  for his earlier  Devotional series on Wisdom. I look forward to this Devotional series on Bearing the image of God, a topic which the Emerging Scholars Network will give focused attention to in the coming months as we frame A Theology of Higher Education. To God be the glory!  ~ Thomas B. Grosh IV, Associate Director of the Emerging Scholars Network “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness” (Genesis 1:26) The most Hebraic understanding of this Bible verse is that humankind was … [Read more...] about Devotions: Bearing the image of God (1)

Review: An Unhurried Life

April 22, 2014 by Bob Trube Leave a Comment

In An Unhurried Life: Following Jesus' Rhythms of Work and Rest  Alan Fadling contends many of us are suffering from hurry sickness, and that it is not only detrimental to our bodies but also to our souls. We are going too fast to hear God, too fast to grow deeply, too fast to discern the temptations that lead us astray. He begins by painting a picture of the frenetic life that characterizes modern life. He contrasts this with the idea of apprenticeship with Jesus, the unhurried learning with him. He argues from the … [Read more...] about Review: An Unhurried Life

What Is Ministry?

May 21, 2013 by Micheal Hickerson 3 Comments

About 18 months ago, I stepped down from my position as Associate Director of the Emerging Scholars Network and handed the reins over to my faithful coworker Tom Grosh. I kept my toe in the world of campus ministry by continuing to write for InterVarsity and leading a seminar at Urbana, but at the end of this month, I'm going to be stepping down (again) from my role as a blog contributor to focus on my new full-time job as web manager for a Cincinnati-based manufacturing company. It's an unusual career move, but most of … [Read more...] about What Is Ministry?

What I Remembered at Urbana 12

January 8, 2013 by Micheal Hickerson 4 Comments

Last month's Urbana 12 taught me a few things —for example, on a panel of three people, it takes a long time for each panel member to answer each question from the audience. The more important lessons, though, were reminders more than anything else. Three lessons, in particular, have been helpful to me as I've been processing God's messages to me through Urbana 12. http://vimeo.com/56574579 Every person serves God in a unique way. There is no one career  that all Christians have to follow. Since I've been going to … [Read more...] about What I Remembered at Urbana 12
