Science in Review: A Theology of Science

September 30, 2015 by Andy Walsh 4 Comments

If I'm not interested in science, why take a science class? This was the first question I received from  my reader survey. Technically, it came from Tom while testing the form, but I thought it offered a convenient entry into  a theology of science. Science is a worthwhile pursuit as an end unto itself; there are also plenty of practical and pragmatic reasons to have a professional or amateur interest in science. To get to theology, though, we need to wander beyond the boundaries of science; why not start there and … [Read more...] about Science in Review: A Theology of Science

Why Christian Faith Makes Sense: A Response to Contemporary Challenges, C. Stephen Evans.  Grand Rapids: Baker Academic, 2015. Summary: Against the contemporary challenges by the New Atheists, this book explores why the Christian faith makes sense, even though the existence of God may not be proven, through the consideration of both “natural signs” and the self-revelation of God. … [Read more...] about Book Review: Why Christian Faith Still Makes  Sense

Book Review: Christianity and Classical Culture

Christianity and Classical Culture: The Metamorphosis of Natural Theology in the Christian Encounter with Hellenism By  Jaroslav Pelikan My rating:  4 of 5 stars One of the problems of the Protestant Christianity I am associated with is that, by and large, we are unaware of anything that happened prior to the Reformation. Its Evangelical subculture is even worse, often being unaware of anything that has happened more than ten years ago, or anything outside one's own church. Thankfully, there has been a … [Read more...] about Book Review: Christianity and Classical Culture

Nature as a Christian Apologetic: Intelligent Design Revisited

May 7, 2014 by Tom Ingebritsen 1 Comment

Introduction This is the second of a two-part series addressing the question of whether nature can be used as a Christian apologetic. Natural theology is a discipline that systematically explores the proposed link between God and nature. The traditional approach to natural theology seeks to prove God's existence from what is observed in nature without reference to the Bible or other religious texts. The problem with this approach is that nature is ambiguous with respect to the question of God's existence. In my … [Read more...] about Nature as a Christian Apologetic: Intelligent Design Revisited

Nature as a Christian Apologetic: The Open Secret

April 23, 2014 by Tom Ingebritsen Leave a Comment

Introduction In previous blogs, we've seen that God reveals himself to man through nature and through scripture and we've been addressing questions about how man's interpretations of these revelations can be reconciled. In the next two blogs we are going to address a different question: can nature be used as a Christian apologetic? In other words can Christians use nature in some way for evangelism? The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth … [Read more...] about Nature as a Christian Apologetic: The Open Secret
