Thank-you to the Emerging Scholars Network’s Urbana Liveblog Team for enabling our online ministry not only to finish 2015 strong, but also to begin the new year with a strong, missional vision! For a summary of their posts visit 15 Posts on Mission, Justice, and the University from Urbana 2015, a few more (completed after this post) can be found under the Urbana tag (with other good material from not only Urbana15, but also several of the earlier Urbanas). [Read more…] about January 2016: Most Visited ESN Blog Posts
About ESN
Partner with ESN
It’s been an amazing year for the Emerging Scholars Network (ESN). And we’re standing at a crossroads. Thanks to God’s generous work, we’re ready to connect Christian scholars in the following ways this year, if God provides the financial resources to move forward: [Read more…] about Partner with ESN
January 2015: Most Read ESN Blog Posts
Perhaps most importantly, when we challenge our colleagues and students to use their learning to serve others, we give them a gift more valuable than any diploma: we teach them how to love. — Bethany Bear, English Professor, Scholar’s Compass.
With the Fall 2014 addition of the rich offerings of Scholar’s Compass, the Emerging Scholars Network (ESN) has truly deepened in ways which are not quantifiable. Just yesterday a friend shared with me over an informal coffee shop conversation how much he appreciates ESN’s posts. He keeps pace not only for personal enrichment, but also to forward relevant ones to his son (who is engaged in academic endeavors). Such sharing of the bounty (individually and through larger structures such as campus ministry Facebook walls) and engaging/clarifying conversation is what places January 2015 not far behind March 2013 (remember March Madness 2013: Best Christian Book of All Time?) as the most visited month in ESN blog history (launched August 2008).
Not wanting you to miss the opportunity to read and bless others with This Month’s Most Read Posts, I’ve included them below. As time permits this weekend, I encourage you not only to enjoy/share the wealth of the blog, but also to join the steady stream of people
- letting me know what readers would benefit from ESN addressing/exploring in 2015.
- exploring the opportunity to write for the Blog and/or Scholar’s Compass in particular.
- joining ESN, updating their membership information, and inviting friends to become part of the growing network.
To God be the glory!
Support ESN At Year End
This year, the Emerging Scholars Network (ESN) launched Scholar’s Compass, introduced Christian scholars to peers across continents, and supported ESN Local pilot events in Boston and Central Pennsylvania.
We reflect on the imagery of growth this Advent, thinking about passages like Isaiah 41: 19–20 (ESV):
I will put in the wilderness the cedar, the acacia, the myrtle, and the olive. I will set in the desert the cypress, the plane and the pine together, that they may see and know, may consider and understand together, that the hand of the Lord has done this, the Holy One of Israel has created it.
Through God’s grace and your participation, ESN has grown and is ready to take the next steps, with plans to build a collaboratively written resource on the Theology of Higher Education, launch ESN Local events in more places, and support ESN members through online conversation opportunities. Welcome Hannah to ESN!
As our family heads to InterVarsity’s Cedar Campus for a MidWest Faculty dialogue on The Ends and Goals of Higher Education in Twenty-First-Century America: Change and the Calling of the Christian Educator, it is my privilege to announce that Hannah Eagleson has joined the InterVarsity Emerging Scholars Network (ESN) staff writing team.
Hannah holds a M.A. in liberal arts from St. John’s College in Annapolis and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Delaware. As you may remember, she is the author of several ESN blog series including What I Wish I’d Known About Graduate School and Mentoring. Her post What I Wish I’d Known About Graduate School: Surviving the Workload is in the top five of most visited ESN blog posts.
Why did Hannah join the Emerging Scholars Network staff writing team? In addition to writing for the blog, she looks forward to spearheading two significant projects. Allow me to let her share about these endeavors: [Read more…] about Welcome Hannah to ESN!
