Can 500 words expand community? That’s exactly what’s happened this year. ESN members have been praying with us for growth in community through Scholar’s Compass, an ESN devotional series by and for scholars. These short devotionals have shared great stories and ideas with our readers, and they’ve also expanded our community dramatically.
Here are a few ways that’s been happening. Scholar’s Compass has invited Christian scholars across the the globe into conversation with each other, with writers in Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, and Oceania. It’s served as the springboard for deep conversations about faith and learning among peers, mentoring connections, and more. And it’s gathered a group of thoughtful Christian scholars across a wide range of disciplines and career points. There’s been so much growth in community and interest from writers that we’ve decided to continue Scholar’s Compass posts past August into the 2015/2016 academic year. We’re ready to engage that community further through
- Google hangouts with Scholar’s Compass authors,
- events at conferences such as
- the American Scientific Affiliation annual meeting (July 24-27).
- Urbana Student Missions Conference (December 27-31). Reminder: June 30th early registration, Emerging Scholars sponsorship opportunity, Graduate and Faculty Ministry programming, Urbana GFM FB Wall.
Will you help to support that community at the close of the fiscal year (June 30)? Support ESN Connect: https://blog.emergingscholars.org/about/esn-connects/.

The Emerging Scholars Network is always seeking opportunities to identify, encourage, and equip the next generation of Christian scholars to be a redeeming influence in the academy, church, and the world. As you have an announcement, a “call for papers”, an event, a prayer request (e.g., campus, field, higher ed), a resource suggestion, a review, etc., which is in concord with our Kingdom of God endeavor, please send materials (marketing/sales material not accepted) for consideration to post via email or the ESN Writer Survey. Thank-you. To God be the glory!
