Winners of the ESN survey drawing and . . .

February 21, 2014 by Tom Grosh IV No Comments

Special Announcement: We Have Winners!!

I am proud to announce that Karl from Baylor University and Meghan from Queens University have won our survey drawing. They each will receive $100 worth of InterVarsity Press (IVP) books! Congratulations Karl and Meghan. Thank you to all of the participants in this year’s survey. Your partnership with the Emerging Scholars Network (ESN) enables us to learn not only how to serve each of you better, but to extend the reach of the Gospel in Engaging the University. To God be the glory!

A Few More Announcements:

What topics deserve attention not just during ESN’s March Madness, but throughout the coming months/years?

1) ESN March Madness ’14.

Which topics must Christians be prepared to engage in today’s higher education?

We want to hear from you, so please send in your nominations in the comments section of The Challenge of ESN’s March Madness.

BONUS: Three randomly selected $100 InterVarsity Press prizes for InterVarsity fellowships which make contributions to ESN March Madness ’14 (10 topics with at least 3 collaborators). For more details visit The Challenge of ESN’s March Madness. I encourage you to make it simple by sending an email out, including in announcements, even send a sheet of paper around at your fellowship group (or Bible study). Nominations will be closed on Wednesday, February 26 (midnight ET). The brackets and topics will be announced on Friday, February 28.

2) Saturday, March 1: “The End of the University?” Symposium with Dr. Santa Ono, President of U. of Cincinnati. Pray for preparations. If you’re near one of the eight Midwest sites, please join us for the morning. If you have friends/colleagues near one of the eight Midwest sites, please forward information to them so they can also join us for the morning. Graduate students and ESN members, if cost is an issue, email the Emerging Scholars Network to inquire about scholarships. Please register today if you can or by the middle of next week.

Note:  This symposium is Live via the videoconferencing across the five states and eight campuses originating from the University of Cincinnati. I’ll be at the Pittsburgh site and hope to connect with some of you there and via the videoconferencing. AND yes, in addition to particular campus application, there will be follow-up conversations on the ESN Blog, which will include video from the conference. Any questions regarding the symposium should be directed to Howard Van Cleave, Symposium Coordinator at Van-cleave.3@osu.edu.

3) Christian Scholars Foundation Grant in partnership with ESN. The Christian Scholars Foundation (CSF) offers the CSF-ESN Grant to Advance Christian Scholarship to encourage and nurture Christian junior faculty as they strive for wider recognition in and beyond the academy. We seek to encourage them to integrate Christian faith with their academic endeavors. The deadline for the preliminary application is Saturday, March 15.

In Christ,

Thomas B. Grosh IV

InterVarsity Christian Fellowship
Associate Director, Emerging Scholars Network

And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ- to the glory and praise of God. – Philippians 1:9-11

About Us

The Emerging Scholars Network (ESN) is a national network within InterVarsity’s Graduate & Faculty Ministries which supports those on the academic pathway as they work out how their academic vocation serves God and others. We encourage and equip undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, and early career faculty as they navigate each stage of their academic vocation and transition to the next step in or beyond the academy.
