Navigating Purpose: Re-integrating Faith and Learning, Redemption

October 9, 2014 by David Naugle Leave a Comment

For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities —all things have been created through Him and for Him. For it was the Father's good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven (emphases … [Read more...] about Navigating Purpose: Re-integrating Faith and Learning, Redemption

Devotions: Beatitudes (4) —Hungering and thirsting for God

July 13, 2014 by Carl Shank Leave a Comment

You're blessed when you've worked up a good appetite for God. We usually get what we want, and Jesus challenges us here to want God more than anything else, to "pant" after Him, using the figure of Psalm 63. In his temptation, Jesus retorted to Satan who tempted him to turn stones to bread after forty days and nights in the wilderness, "Man does not … [Read more...] about Devotions: Beatitudes (4) —Hungering and thirsting for God

Engaging Society

Engaging Society  was produced for InterVarsity's Following Christ 2002 Conference. I find it an apt piece (9 min, 17 sec) for our reflection and action not only on Martin Luther King Jr Day, but as the Emerging Scholars Network  (ESN) pushes ahead in 2014. In the coming days, weeks, and months we will  give focused attention to the meaning/purpose of higher ed and how this plays out across disciplines, the "academic ladder", our neighborhood . . . the creation as a whole. As you have material to add to this … [Read more...] about Engaging Society

A Christian Theology of Mentoring: History, Scripture, Virtue, and Discipline

August 16, 2012 by Tom Grosh IV 1 Comment

Mentoring Conversation

Christians are characteristically convinced of the importance of mentoring because of the deep way it is embedded in their faith. Understanding God as Trinity presses on us the conviction that loving relationships are at the center of reality. We note that Jesus' own ministry was centered on the mentoring of the Twelve, and especially the Three. This focus on the intensive formation of a “school of thought and practice” accounts in large part for the durable power of Jesus' influence. Further, the maintenance of … [Read more...] about A Christian Theology of Mentoring: History, Scripture, Virtue, and Discipline
