November 11, 2018 by Robert Kaita Leave a Comment

In our goal of supporting early career Christian academics, we like to crowdsource short tips on important ways of thriving as we follow Christ in the university. This fall, we've launched a new series of tips on growing spiritually in academia. Physics researcher Bob Kaita brings us a meditation on Sabbath today, adapted from a brief encouragement he shared with the Princeton InterVarsity Graduate Christian group at the beginning of the semester. Rhetoric and Religion in the 21st Century

[W]e are today witnessing the return of religion. As the French writer and statesman André Malraux predicted, the twenty-first century would be religious. This is why it is important—and perhaps why it is the duty of us academics and intellectuals—to find new ways of thinking about religion in a world where unthinking and depraved uses of religion can be dangerous. We should not forget, however, that for many linking rhetoric and religion remains new and daring. - Laurent Pernot, “The Rhetoric of Religion” … [Read more...] about 10/6: Veritas UTK Panel at Conference on Rhetoric and Religion

In June or January: The Myth of Summertime (Summer Snapshot 2018)

August 24, 2018 by Angela O'Neal Leave a Comment

We like to share what we call "snapshots" from time to time, brief reflections from a particular moment of the year in the life of an ESN author or member. We hope these glimpses of God's work in the lives of fellow academics are encouraging to early career scholars as they navigate the calendar of the academic year and the everyday calling of following Christ in their work and lives. Today we share some thoughts on the end of summer by literature professor Angela O'Neal. You can read her previous posts here.   … [Read more...] about In June or January: The Myth of Summertime (Summer Snapshot 2018)
