As part of #GivingTuesday, support Hannah Eagleson’s editing / writing for ESN.
Recently Hannah Eagleson and I chatted with author, musician, and public speaker Andy Crouch about the Emerging Scholars Network (ESN). We focused upon the role of Christians in academia as culture makers. Here’s his take on the need for ESN:
The health of the university depends on scholars who will devote their lives to research, teaching, and service with excellence, integrity, creativity, and love. We cannot just assume that Christians will naturally find their way to and through this challenging vocation: they need to be encouraged, developed, supported, challenged, and sustained. Neither local churches nor conventional campus ministries alone can meet this need, which is why the work of Emerging Scholars Network is so essential—not just for scholars themselves, but for the university, our culture, and the church as well.
One of the things Hannah loves about being an editor for ESN is the opportunity to see all the ways our authors and members are culture makers, people who add something amazing to the world. On this #GivingTuesday, prayerfully consider a gift to enable Hannah to continue to support Christians in the university as they grow in their ability to live out God’s Kingdom and love their neighbors through culture making. Your partnership in ministry is much appreciated. To God be the glory!
Tom enjoys daily conversations regarding living out the Biblical Story with his wife Theresa and their four girls, around the block, at Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ Church (where he teaches adult electives and co-leads a small group), among healthcare professionals as the Northeast Regional Director for the Christian Medical & Dental Associations (CMDA), and in higher ed as a volunteer with the Emerging Scholars Network (ESN). For a number of years, the Christian Medical Society / CMDA at Penn State College of Medicine was the hub of his ministry with CMDA. Note: Tom served with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship / USA for 20+ years, including 6+ years as the Associate Director of ESN. He has written for the ESN blog from its launch in August 2008. He has studied Biology (B.S.), Higher Education (M.A.), Spiritual Direction (Certificate), Spiritual Formation (M.A.R.), Ministry to Emerging Generations (D.Min.). To God be the glory!
