Seminary Now: How Do We Reconcile Science and the Bible on Origins?

We wanted to pass along from our partners at Seminary Now a preview of John Walton’s course on The Lost World of Genesis One. Also, for a limited time, Seminary Now is offering up to a 50 percent discount on their courses! Consider signing up for this course or another as something to do over semester break!

In his Seminary Now course based on the book The Lost World of Genesis One (InterVarsity Press), Bible scholar John Walton argues that Genesis was never intended to answer modern scientific questions about origins. Dr. Walton presents a literary and theological understanding of Genesis 1 within the context of the ancient Near Eastern world and unpacks its implications for modern science. Walton’s thoughtful analysis unpacks seldom appreciated aspects of the biblical text and sets Bible-believing scientists free to investigate the question of origins.

Seminary Now is an online streaming platform with video courses from leading professors and authors—in short sessions you can watch anytime, anywhere on mobile and TV apps. It provides engaging instruction of intellectual and spiritual “heft” available for the busy academic who is not able to enroll in a traditional seminary program due to time, distance, and cost. Subscribe for individual access to all courses (don’t miss their holiday sale going on now!)—or inquire about classroom or group access at info@seminarynow.com.

The Emerging Scholars Network is always seeking opportunities to identify, encourage, and equip the next generation of Christian scholars to be a redeeming influence in the academy, church, and the world. As you have an announcement, a "call for papers", an event, a prayer request (e.g., campus, field, higher ed), a resource suggestion, a review, etc., which is in concord with our Kingdom of God endeavor, please send materials (marketing/sales material not accepted) for consideration to post via email or the ESN Writer Survey. Thank-you. To God be the glory!

About Us

The Emerging Scholars Network (ESN) is a national network within InterVarsity’s Graduate & Faculty Ministries which supports those on the academic pathway as they work out how their academic vocation serves God and others. We encourage and equip undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, and early career faculty as they navigate each stage of their academic vocation and transition to the next step in or beyond the academy.
