Living out your vocation doesn’t just happen when you have the time for extended theological reflection or peaceful spiritual exercises on retreat. It also happens when you’re grading papers, starting a postdoc, going to conferences, and writing your dissertation. Some of ESN’s most widely read posts last year focused on wrestling through one’s vocation while navigating a particular career stage or working through a common academic experience.
Because we see that everyday work as a key part of following Christ in an academic vocation, we’ll be publishing more pieces on these topics this year.
Want to write about one of these things? Check out our guidelines below and fill out our Fall 2015 Writer’s Survey.
Writer’s Guidelines: Navigating Career Stages
We desire to support emerging scholars as they move from one career stage to another, and as they approach the rewarding but challenging experiences that define each stage, such as
- finding a graduate program,
- learning to write a seminar paper,
- writing a dissertation,
- finding a job,
- preparing for tenure or exploring adjunct and continuing nontenure track work.
We welcome pieces exploring the experience of believing academics who have navigated these and similar challenges. Formats can vary, but many writers choose to explore some intersection of learning academic skills and growing in spiritual formation.
We encourage writers to submit a series of at least 3 posts, but will also consider single posts or two-part series.
Writer’s Guidelines: Navigating Common Academic Experiences
We desire to support emerging scholars as they learn the skills and patterns of an academic life. We welcome pieces on common academic experiences such as
- grading,
- submitting work to conferences,
- doing laboratory or field research,
- and more.
Formats can vary, but many writers choose to explore some intersection of practicing academic skills and growing in spiritual formation.
We encourage writers to submit a series of at least 3 posts, but will also consider single posts or two-part series.
About the author:
The Emerging Scholars Network is always seeking opportunities to identify, encourage, and equip the next generation of Christian scholars to be a redeeming influence in the academy, church, and the world. As you have an announcement, a "call for papers", an event, a prayer request (e.g., campus, field, higher ed), a resource suggestion, a review, etc., which is in concord with our Kingdom of God endeavor, please send materials (marketing/sales material not accepted) for consideration to post via email or the ESN Writer Survey. Thank-you. To God be the glory!
