As the semester starts up, we wanted to share a preview of what’s happening at the Emerging Scholars Network (ESN) this fall. We’re excited to be introducing new ways of connecting with other Christian scholars online and in person, as well as a wide range of blog options. This week, we’ll be sharing a preview of upcoming blog features for this academic year. For now, we’d like to introduce some new or expanded ways to connect face to face. Stay tuned for more on these ways to connect:
1. Google Hangouts
ESN pioneered its first ever Google hangout earlier in August, and it went very well. We’re excited about this way of connecting Christian scholars face-to-face, if not in the same geographic locale.
2. Local Events
We also have a few local events or monthly meetings in the works in partnership with InterVarsity’s local ministry, so stay tuned for more details.
3. ESN presence at conferences
We’re pioneering new conference meetup ideas at Urbana. Join us there, apply for a sponsorship by September 16, or let us know about other conference opportunities this year.
Where has all this come from? God has blessed ESN abundantly this year with excellent new and returning writers, a rapidly growing community of Christian scholars, and expanded opportunities to connect with Christian academics at conferences and beyond. We’re deeply grateful, and we want first and foremost to praise God for all He is doing. His generosity is truly evident in ESN’s growth this year. We also want to thank you, our readers and supporters. You have contributed your thoughts, your presence, your finances, and your prayers towards ESN, and those gifts are bearing fruit.
Please get in touch with us here if you’re interested in the above opportunities or just want to say hi, and we invite you to join us in prayer for the year below.
For Prayer:
1. Please join us in thanking God for the rapid growth of ESN this year, and for the ways connections among Christian scholars in our network have grown. Please pray that relationships among ESN members would deepen this year.
2. Please join us in thanking God for Scholar’s Compass; so many of you have written thoughtful and encouraging posts, and as we prayed last year Scholar’s Compass has been the catalyst for a great deal of growth in community. Please pray for content on the blog this year that will continue to encourage the community of ESN members in integrating thoughtful Christian practice and scholarly vocation.
3. Let’s thank God for a great first Google hangout, and please pray with us for this new effort to bear great fruit in connection and growth for Christian academics.
To God be the glory!

About the author:
The Emerging Scholars Network is always seeking opportunities to identify, encourage, and equip the next generation of Christian scholars to be a redeeming influence in the academy, church, and the world. As you have an announcement, a "call for papers", an event, a prayer request (e.g., campus, field, higher ed), a resource suggestion, a review, etc., which is in concord with our Kingdom of God endeavor, please send materials (marketing/sales material not accepted) for consideration to post via email or the ESN Writer Survey. Thank-you. To God be the glory!
