Finding Christ When You’re Busy, Part 2 (Scholar’s Compass)

November 1, 2015 by Hannah Eagleson Leave a Comment

Part 2 of a series. See Part 1 here.   Quotation Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many  who were  rich put in much.  Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites,  which make a quadrans.  So He called His disciples to  Himself  and said to them,  “Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury;  for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her … [Read more...] about Finding Christ When You’re Busy, Part 2 (Scholar’s Compass)

Howard[2] (InterVarsity Press, 2012) provides helpful  insight. Lectio divina is an ancient practice of reflective reading and … [Read more...] about Book Review: Discovering Lectio Divina

Book Review: Kneeling with Giants

March 4, 2014 by Bob Trube 1 Comment

As a young Christian, I thought there was one way to pray. I learned the ACTS acronym (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) and thought this was THE way. Only later did I discover that even within scripture, people prayed in widely different ways. In  Kneeling with Giants: Learning to Pray with History's Best Teachers,  Gary Neal Hansen[1]  chooses ten saints and their recommended ways of praying to expose us to the breadth of ways God's people have prayed. We have Benedictine liturgy, Luther's teaching … [Read more...] about Book Review: Kneeling with Giants

Do you desire rest?

June 18, 2013 by Tom Grosh IV Leave a Comment

What kind of spiritual discipline is rest? What exhausts you? introduced an exploration of the spiritual discipline of rest, one which I find particularly pertinent not only to my life, but also to the lives of those whom I interact with on campus -- in campus ministry and as a seminary student. As you may remember, the inspiration for the first post was a discussion I facilitated for a mix graduate students and medical students who are part of the Christian Medical Society  /  CMDA at Penn State College of Medicine. … [Read more...] about Do you desire rest?
