Book Response: Renaissance, by Os Guinness

January 21, 2016 by Tom Grosh IV Leave a Comment

As part of his Doctor of Ministry (DMin) in  Ministry to Emerging Generations  (Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary), Tom's written a number of book responses and given several short presentations (personal and group). In this series he not only "shares the wealth," but also looks forward to your feedback as he refines his project: An argument for vocational discernment for graduate studies in the context of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (Stay tuned to learn more!). For this particular post, additional material from … [Read more...] about Book Response: Renaissance, by Os Guinness

The Big Picture of Ministry to Emerging Generations

February 23, 2015 by Tom Grosh IV Leave a Comment

Christians must care deeply about culture and they must recognize that true cultural obedience to their Lord has to take place under the cross. -- Richard Mouw.  Abraham Kuyper: A Short and Personal Introduction  (Eerdmans, 2011),  136. In Ministry to Emerging Generations  I briefly shared my journey to and the beginning of a  Doctor of Ministry program (DMin) at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Today  my intention  was to explore the Big Picture  of Creation-Fall-Redemption which frames  my academic work. But as I … [Read more...] about The Big Picture of Ministry to Emerging Generations

Ministry to Emerging Generations

February 9, 2015 by Tom Grosh IV Leave a Comment

Calling is the truth that God calls us to himself so decisively that everything we are, everything we do, and everything we have  is invested with a special devotion and dynamism lived out as a response to his summons and service.   -- Os Guinness, The Call:   Finding and Fulfilling the Central Purpose of Your Life (Nashville, TN: Word, 1998), p. 4. As I drove from South Central PA to Boston, MA,  and the next day sat in my first day of a Doctor of Ministry program (DMin) in Ministry to Emerging Generations at … [Read more...] about Ministry to Emerging Generations

The Intellectual Pathway

August 8, 2014 by Tom Grosh IV Leave a Comment

Why Are We Students? We study in order to understand God's good creation and the ways sin has distorted it, so that, in Christ's Power, we may bring healing to persons and the created order. As God's image-bearers we are preparing to exercise responsible authority in our task of cultivating the creation to the end that all people and all things may joyfully acknowledge and serve their Creator and true King. -- The Student Creed by  Donald Opitz and Derek Melleby (Learning for the Love of God: A Student's … [Read more...] about The Intellectual Pathway

Book Review: Souls in Transition

October 8, 2013 by Bob Trube Leave a Comment

Souls in Transition: The Religious & Spiritual Lives of Emerging Adults  (Oxford University Press. 2009)  is chock-full of insights and all the graphs and tables you could ask for. Some of the most significant to me were the commentary on emerging adult culture -- which the authors saw as governed by an intuitional morality -- one just knows what is right for oneself but is also characteristically free-wheeling in terms of alcohol consumption, sexual hook-ups, risky behaviors and often a lack of clear purpose. Of … [Read more...] about Book Review: Souls in Transition
