Thank you for making 2012 a great year for the Emerging Scholars Blog!  Among our posts published last year, our top 10 most read posts includes a typical mix of advice for graduate school, spiritual formation, and, well, aliens: Nicholas Wolterstorff: Advice to Those Who Would Be Christian Scholars Henri Nouwen: From Loneliness to Solitude 13 Ways of Looking at Graduate School: Part 1 Who's Afraid of Angels and Aliens, Alienation and Etcetera? What is the biggest challenge to today's apologist?  (part of … [Read more...] about Our Top Posts of 2012

Longtime readers of the blog and members of the  Emerging Scholars Network know we have a close relationship with  InterVarsity  Faculty Ministry. Where ESN helps students and young faculty who are pursuing academic careers,  Faculty Ministry serves current faculty, primarily at secular universities, through on-campus gatherings, regional conferences, and  The Lamp Post, an email journal edited by  Tom Trevethan. In the Lamp Post, Tom published an essay "On the Dangers of 'Using' Scripture," which serves as a … [Read more...] about Excerpt: On the Dangers of “Using” Scripture

As in years past, we'll have an exhibitor table, and I'll be hosting a seminar on  "Serving Christ as a Professor." One of my favorite things about conferences is learning about new books —or, even better,  old books that I somehow hadn't known about. Most of the attendees at Urbana are undergraduates, so the conference is a great opportunity to send them away with a fresh reading list for … [Read more...] about What Books Should We Suggest at Urbana 12?
