InterVarsity’s Emerging Scholars Network and Faculty Ministry Welcomes you to Via Divina: The Franciscan Way

Today you have the opportunity to join in one of the walks of Via Divina: The Franciscan Way. At the heart of pilgrimage is an invitation to be loved and known by the God who is walking beside us always.  InterVarsity’s Via Divina resources are a means to experience the ancient tradition of pilgrimage.

The core of these resources are audio guides that you listen to while walking in your neighborhood, on your campus, even on vacation. These walks become embodied lessons on how to journey with God through whatever you go through in life. This walk lasts about 1 hour and can be enjoyed anywhere on the Point Loma Nazarene Campus.

Walk. Love. Rebuild.

Even where there are deepening divisions, love is possible. Even when there is suffering, joy is possible. Even in the midst of brokenness, rebuilding is possible. A simple, singing monk from the 13th century just might be able to teach us what is still possible—for us, today.

The Franciscan Way follows the path of Francis through the narrow stone streets of Assisi and along the dirt paths of the Umbrian countryside as we share in his journey of transformation from disillusioned youth to joy-filled fool for Christ. Along with Clare and their many followers, Francis’ full-hearted embodiment of the way of Jesus sparked a deeply felt renewal within himself and within the Church. Let the stories of Francis and Clare, along with scripture, prayer practices, and contemporary stories, inspire you this summer in an experience of walking in the Divine Way (Via Divina).

Today you are invited to listen to the fourth walk of this series of five audio guides: Make Peace. In this guide you will engage with stories of ways in which Francis sought to live a life of shalom nearby his home of Assisi, as well as in the far land of Egypt.

As a way to begin this practice, we invite you to listen to a 5-minute introduction to the Franciscan Way:

1. Listen to the Franciscan Way Introduction

Also, take time to download the interactive journal where you can take field notes on your walk and engage with some reflection questions.

2. Download the Interactive Journal PDF

Now you are ready to walk. Here’s the link to the audioguide – along with some instructions on streaming or downloading the guides.

3. Listen to the Walk 4 Audioguide

How to Stream or Download the Audio Guides

  • STREAMING
    • If your data plan permits, you can stream the audio guides right from the player from the button above. Be aware that the audio may stop playing if your screen goes dark, depending on your phone settings.
  • DOWNLOADING TO YOUR DEVICE
    • If you prefer to download an audio-guide file straight to your phone, be aware that downloaded files store in different places on different devices, and you’ll need to Google your particular device’s file storage to know where and how to play the audio guide that way.
  • RSS: FOR SMOOTH LISTENING
    • If you’re an avid podcast user, you can add our audio guides straight to your favorite podcast app by using the “RSS feed” and copying and pasting https://feed.podbean.com/thefranciscanway/feed.xml into your podcast app. Follow this handy guide to add the feed to your app. Then, you can download any of our audio guides just like you would any other podcast episode.

We pray that this time has brought a time of rest and reflection as you walked in nature, with the stories of Jesus, Francis, and contemporary pilgrims.
