Interview with Alynne MacLean and Francis Su
Do you ever wonder where your career fits in the big picture? How can you work for the common good as you’re figuring out your calling? Join us for worship and an interview with Alynne MacLean and Francis Su. Alynne leads innovation on rapid health diagnostics for the developing world for Science with a Mission. Francis is former president of the Mathematical Association of America and author of Mathematics for Human Flourishing.
2:00 PM – Small Groups by Field Area
Connect in small groups to talk about next steps in your career, brainstorm practical ways to work toward the common good, and build community. Small group discussions were a highlight of last year’s conference, and we look forward to even more great connections this year.
3:00 PM – InterVarsity Reception: Exploring Mars with Roger Wiens
(All ASA Participants Welcome)
Join us on Mars! We’ll have a fun interview with Roger Wiens, leader of many Mars-related projects. Roger has worked as a scientist at Caltech, the University of California, the Los Alamos National Laboratory, and NASA. He is the author of a book on robotic space exploration, and an asteroid is named after him.
7 PM EDT State of the ASA Meeting (Sun, Aug 1)
Come to hear how ASA is growing its support for Christians in science, enjoy a talk by InterVarsity Press author Steve Macchia, and celebrate ASA’s first ever Early Career and Campus MInistry Awards!

Dr. Hannah Eagleson loves building the ecosystem Christian scholars need to flourish and create positive impacts, in the university and beyond. She is Associate Director of InterVarsity’s Emerging Scholars Network, a digital first ministry serving thousands of early career Christian scholars. Dr. Eagleson launched the ESN student/early career track at the American Scientific Affiliation annual faith and science conference. She is the editor of *Science and Faith: Student Questions Explored* (Hendrickson, 2019), and the one-semester guidebook *Scholar’s Compass: Connecting Faith & Work for Academics* (InterVarsity Emerging Scholars Network, 2021), with design by noted liturgical artist Ned Bustard. She also launched the Scholar’s Compass online devotional series in her previous role as ESN Editor. Dr. Eagleson holds an MA from St. John’s College (Annapolis, MD) and a PhD in Renaissance literature from the University of Delaware.
