Wheaton College invites applications for two faculty positions – one in physics and one in engineering – to begin Fall 2023.
The successful physics candidate will teach broadly throughout the undergraduate physics major curriculum. As active participants in a thriving liberal arts intellectual community, our faculty also contribute to the College’s Christ at the Core general education program. We seek applicants with an earned Ph. D. in Physics, Astronomy, or a closely related field, who will engage a diverse student body with an active-learning model that challenges and supports each student. Previous teaching experience, including experience with evidence-based physics curricula and hands-on laboratory instruction, is highly valued. The ability to mentor physics majors and general education students in the integration of Christian faith with the life of the mind and the practice of physics is also an important component of this position. Demonstrated ability to carry out an experimental, computational, or theoretical research program that involves undergraduate students is required. The specific field of expertise is open.
The successful engineering candidate will teach foundational engineering courses in the first three years of the engineering program including Statics, Dynamics, Strength of Materials, and Materials Science. This faculty member will also oversee two seminar-style courses: an Introduction to the Profession for first year students and an Engineering Ethics seminar. We seek applicants with an earned Ph. D. in engineering. A Master’s degree with suitable experience would qualify candidates for an Instructor appointment. Previous teaching and industry experience, with hands-on design and project-based learning experience, is highly valued. The ability to mentor engineering students in the integration of Christian faith with the life of the mind and the practice of engineering is an important component of this position. Tenure-track candidates will be expected to maintain an active and productive program of scholarship, preferably one in which students are involved.

The Emerging Scholars Network is always seeking opportunities to identify, encourage, and equip the next generation of Christian scholars to be a redeeming influence in the academy, church, and the world. As you have an announcement, a “call for papers”, an event, a prayer request (e.g., campus, field, higher ed), a resource suggestion, a review, etc., which is in concord with our Kingdom of God endeavor, please send materials (marketing/sales material not accepted) for consideration to post via email or the ESN Writer Survey. Thank-you. To God be the glory!
