Whales, Lightnings, and Green Things, Bless the Lord (August Sunday Series)

O ye lightnings and clouds,
bless ye the Lord;
praise him and magnify him for ever.

O let the earth
bless the Lord;
O ye mountains and hills,
bless ye the Lord;

O all ye green things upon the earth,
bless ye the Lord;
praise him and magnify him for ever.

O ye wells,
bless ye the Lord;
O ye seas and floods,
bless ye the Lord;

O ye whales and all that
move in the waters,
bless ye the Lord;
praise him and magnify him for ever.

– Excerpt, traditional canticle, “Benedicite, Omnia Opera Domini,” courtesy of Hymnary.org

God holds the depths of the sea in the palm of His hand; He rules the storms and mountains; and He makes the green things of the earth to flourish. May all our readers find hope in His power and His goodness this week.

Note: We’ve been sharing this hymn the last few weeks as an encouragement to worship as summer rest wraps up and fall work begins. Next week on the blog we’ll start sharing ESN’s prayers and goals for the 2016/2017 academic year.

ESN Announce

The Emerging Scholars Network is always seeking opportunities to identify, encourage, and equip the next generation of Christian scholars to be a redeeming influence in the academy, church, and the world. As you have an announcement, a “call for papers”, an event, a prayer request (e.g., campus, field, higher ed), a resource suggestion, a review, etc., which is in concord with our Kingdom of God endeavor, please send materials (marketing/sales material not accepted) for consideration to post via email or the ESN Writer Survey. Thank you.
